Structured Learning and Creative Expression
At Scottsdale Child Care & Learning Centers we believe in age-appropriate learning based on the philosophy of a structured learning environment with the ability for creative expression. Before a child can create, he must learn basic skills, such as holding a crayon, using scissors, and following directions.
Creative expression should be encouraged in all children regardless of ability. Each child should feel that he is an important, respected individual.
Creativity takes place in the block area; your daughter may be a contractor some day! In the dramatic play center, children become mommies and daddies, dentists, zookeepers, clowns, and whatever the child's imagination transforms him/her into!
We believe "the PROCESS/NOT THE PRODUCT," is what is significant in the way children learn.
Visual Discrimination
Perception - sizes, shapes An activity dealing with shapes has to do with geometric and visual perception. When the visual discrimination ability is high, so is the reading ability!
Vocabulary
Vocabulary development is an on-going affair and a product of all learning experiences. Children have four vocabularies that they acquire in this order: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Discovery Learning
Numerous opportunities will be provided for your child to manipulate, explore, and discover. Sensory observation, experimentation, manipulation, classification, making comparisons, problem solving, and critical thinking are the basic skills used in discovery learning.
Social Play
- Problem solving
- Attitudes
- Consideration of others
- Sharing
More people lose their jobs because of not being able to get along with others than any other reason. Playtime is a vital learning experience in the development of social skills that will last a lifetime.
Math and Science
- Problem solving
- Measurements
- Manipulation
- Discovery
- Number-numeral relationship
Sets-before a child is two he meets sets, a train set, a set of dishes, a set of trucks. A pair of shoes. Even the one year old can learn to match, compare, and measure.
Art
Children experience art through the freedom of touching, feeling, pulling, twisting tearing, pasting, bending, scraping, cutting and shaping. They are developing a feel for forms, balance line, color, and shape, as well as gaining practice in problem solving. They are learning about various relationships, sharpening their powers of observation, beginning the process of logical thinking, and developing motor skills.
Music
Music activities give children opportunities to use their entire bodies for learning and exploring their surroundings, build awareness by listening to the many kinds of sounds, and help children experience the release of freedom of body movement.
Children need to be encouraged to test their vocal and kinesthetic abilities and to have fun while they are experimenting. We emphasize the enjoyment of participation.
Summer Program
All of the programs described above continue throughout the summer. In addition, we offer a summer camp for children six to nine years old. This program integrates special theme days, arts and crafts, a reading program, games, music, physical education, etc.
Age-Appropriate Learning
Infants
Personalized care with a nurturing environment is provided to every infant. We enhance your baby's development with colorful toys and soft music.
One Year Old
Toddlers are becoming active little people now! They're more independent and eat table food. Your child will be coming into the cafeteria for lunch, sleeping on higher own mat, and mastering the sippy cup instead of the bottle. Now he/she is learning to speak can follow simple instructions. SCCLC also has a toddler playground for the children to enjoy several times a day.

Our two-year-old program will be an introduction to the preschool setting. Your two year old will begin having learning centers and doing art projects.

The curriculum includes a phonics-based program for reading, mathematics, social studies, health, science, music and art. Other benefits of our kindergarten include the following:
- Children are in a private kindergarten class-maximum 20 students per class.
- Children have the security of knowing "this is where I belong for the day".
- Children do not have to be bussed around the city.
- Children benefit from a full day of kindergarten activities.
- Graduation ceremony in the spring.
